Dr. Rafia grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, where he received his BS in Biology from Youngstown State University. He then attended The Ohio State University for his dental degree (DDS) and moved to Portland to complete his Hospital Residency at OHSU.
Kaz spent nearly a decade as clinic director with Permanente Dental Associates here in Portland, and then opened the office in early 2005. He is currently an Associate Professor at the OHSU General Practice Residency, and an active member of ADA, AGD, and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.
Kaz firmly believes that learning is a life-long pursuit. He is honored as a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD) for his efforts in completing over 500 hours of CE and successfully passing the rigorous FAGD exam, a distinction granted to less than 10% of all dentists in the US.
His other passion in life is traveling, and every year or so he travels abroad to volunteer with Partnership for International Medical Access (PIMA-NW) and Medical Teams International. His volunteer work has taken him to Nicaragua, Honduras, Ecuador, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Panama, and most recently, to Nepal. He was recently acknowledged by his peers for his years of service as a Fellow of International College of Dentists (FICD), and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Kaz is married, and together with his wife (Heather) they have a son, Armin.

Dr. Matthew Young is a lifelong Oregonian. He grew up in Portland and attended Oregon State University. He graduated with Honors and wrote his thesis on Amalgam vs. Composite as a restorative material. After graduating, he received his dental degree from OHSU School of Dentistry. He spent his first several years working for two large group practices in the surrounding Portland area.

Matt actively volunteers in the community providing dentistry to patients in need on the Medical Teams International dental vans. He also participates in multiple continuing education courses including many Spear study clubs. Matt’s goal is to get his FAGD in the near future.
Matt is married to his wife Michelle, who is a Nurse in Portland. They had their first child Logan in July 2018. When he’s not working or thinking about teeth, Matt will be skiing in search of the best powder in the PNW or spending time with his family.
